Review An Amsterdam Vacation

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is small enough for the locals to refer to it as a village.  Nevertheless, the city has one of the most sophisticated canal systems in Europe.  There is much history in the buildings and houses that line the streets and canals.  It’s somewhat ironic that these structures now house sex shops, casinos, brothels, and smoke shops.  Prostitution along with the sale and use of marijuana and hashish is permitted and largely accepted in Amsterdam’s renowned red light district.

Amsterdam attracts a diverse mix of travelers.  All countries and nationalities are represented here. Shopkeepers often need to speak multiple languages in order to communicate with their patrons.  Amsterdam is truly an international city and a popular stop on the international circuit.

Despite what you might expect, Amsterdam is a vibrant, fast-paced city.  The streets are bustling with bicyclers, joggers, working professionals, and new tourists arriving daily.  In addition to the extravagant nightlife, Amsterdam lays claim to some of the world’s most prized treasures including the Van Gogh museum and the insightful Anne Frank House.

Nothing can prepare you for your first visit to Amsterdam.  The city reaches far beyond imagination. It’s quite easy to get swept up in the madness.  Don’t be too distraught if you loose control. You weren’t the first and you certainly won't be the last. If you need a break, take some time out and experience some of the charming Dutch culture.
